Welcome  Everyone  to  our  First  Grade Classroom!!

I  am  so  excited  to  start  a  new  year!!  I  wanted  to  fill  everyone  in  on  what  our  day  will  look  like.  We  will  start  off  our  morning  reading  our  morning  message  and  doing  our  daily calendar activities.  During  this  time  we  will  also  share  news  and  read  poems.

After  our morning actvities we will begin reading.  At  the  beginning  of  the  year  I  assess  each child's reading levels so that I know where to begin.  We will  read individually, in small groups and as a whole class.  We do a lot of reading throughout the day, not just during reading time.

Next we move into writing. We will start the year writing in our journals and as we grow as writers we will write stories and poems. We will also incorporate spelling into our writing time.

Math comes next.  We will begin the year reviewing numbers and patterns. we will also do simple addition and subtraction, graphing, counting by 2, 5, 10, fractions, story problems, time and money.

Finally it will be time for lunch which will be followed by story time and then recess. Following recess we have a special such as art, music, library or PE. Our last period of the day will alternate  science and Social studies.

First grade is an exciting year full of growth and discovery and we want you to be a part of it. Please feel free to stop in and see what we are up to.
