Dear Parents,
This is a very special time in your child’s life. He or she will be learning many new things this year– academic skills, self-confidence, and responsibility. In fact, the year spent in third grade will be very important in readying your child for the less structured years ahead.
You play a major role in helping your child reach the maximum of his or her potential. Since most of a child’s learning takes place outside of the formal classroom, your involvement in your child’s learning experiences will have much to do with how well your child succeeds in school and in later life. By working together I believe we can all help your child become the best person possible– socially, emotionally and scholastically.
Everyone wants to know that there is a purpose for doing anything requiring effort– and school certainly does require effort. It is for this reason that I employ a theme-based approach to my teaching method as much as possible. A theme based approach organizes materials and activities around a central topic, providing a natural link between the different areas of the curriculum. By surrounding the class in the theme, links are established between the content areas, and meaning is generated. This year our themes will revolve around the communities of the world. We will “visit” many new cultures and explore how they are similar to our own. Please feel free to contact me if you have experience , books, or other materials on these countries as we visit them.
I look forward to watching your child become an active seeker of knowledge and to working with you to make this third grade year a memorable experience.
